Guildford MP praises community for pulling together during coronavirus outbreak

People in and around Guildford have been praised for coming together and not waiting for help to trickle down from the government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

That has come from the Member of Parliament for Guildford, Angela Richardson, who said we have seen people "taking the initiative".

Speaking on The Peter Gordon Breakfast Show this morning, she also confirmed the Royal Surrey County Hospital is doing "really, really well" with its supply of personal protective equipment "because the community has been so generous".

She said they "are now having to put those offers towards Surrey County Council who have put an urgent call out for PPE".

Angela said we are in a "pretty good position here" and spoke about the community effort in the area:

"It doesn't surprise me because I know how generous Guildford is and I know how generous people in Surrey are as a whole, just looking after each other.

"So we are very lucky here.

"There are big networks that are set up and there are people who just think about others before they think of themselves."

While there has been a supply issue with PPE globally, Angela said three million gowns produced in the UK will be available "very shortly, I believe tomorrow".
