Guildford countryside car parks shutting to stop people breaching stay-at-home advice

Published at 3:51pm 10th April 2020. (Updated at 4:05pm 10th April 2020)

Guildford Borough Council has announced it is closing several countryside car parks this evening to restrict people breaching the government advice to stay at home.

It comes on the first day of the long weekend, during which the council says people have been found going to these areas, despite the advice.

It says while urban parks have been quiet, "reasonable numbers" are still accessing the countryside.

The car parks that are closing at 6pm today include:

  • St Marthas in Guildford
  • Chantries in Guildford
  • Riverside Nature Reserve in Guildford
  • Lakeside Nature Reserve in Ash Vale
  • Merrow Downs by the golf course clubhouse in Guildford

Barriers will be deployed to close the car parks.

Residents are asked to remove their cars as soon as possible.
