Guildford Cathedral to light up blue as we clap for our carers again tonight

Published at 11:47am 9th April 2020.

Guildford Cathedral will light blue as we are all asked to clap for our carers again at 8pm tonight (9 April) in Surrey and Hampshire.

However, because of social distancing, we are being asked not to go to the cathedral but admire it from our windows, balcony or front door.

People across our two counties have found their own ways to appreciate the frontline staff currently battling coronavirus.

In Stoke Park, Guildford a large sign has been installed on the grass of the football pitch that reads 'thank you NHS'.

Other people have been putting up rainbow posters in their windows to thank key workers.

A new appeal being launched today aims to raise at least Β£5m to support NHS workers battling coronavirus.

Organised by NHS Charities Together, the #OneMillionClaps appeal aims to inspire at least one million Britons to donate Β£5 by texting "clap" to 70507 along with a message of support.

The money raised will be used to provide NHS nurses, doctors, staff and volunteers with food, travel, accommodation and counselling during the COVID-19 crisis.
