Coronavirus: Recycling centres across Surrey and Hampshire shut

Published at 2:21pm 24th March 2020.

Recycling centres across Surrey and Hampshire are now closed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

It is after Prime Minister addressed the nation yesterday evening (24 March) telling us all to stay at home.

You can go out only for essential work, to exercise once a day, buy food, or care for someone who's vulnerable.

The Surrey County Council website currently reads:

"Our community recycling centres are closed with immediate effect from 24th March 2020 until further notice.

"The County Council made the decision in the light of the Prime Minister's statement of 23rd March 2020 to restrict all but essential movement.

"The decision will be reviewed once new guidance has been issued by the government.

"We thank you for your understanding."

All 15 of Surrey County Council Community Recycling Centres are now closed, these include:

  • Bagshot
  • Camberley
  • Caterham
  • Cranleigh (recycling only)
  • Farnham
  • Guildford
  • Woking

Hampshire County Council has also made the decision to close all of their household waste recycling centres:

"Following the Prime Minister's announcement yesterday, all HWRCs will now be closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak until further notice."

These include:

  • Aldershot
  • Farnborough
  • Hartley Witney
  • Bordon
  • Alton
