Coronavirus: Guildford playgrounds close

Published at 4:50pm 23rd March 2020.

Playgrounds in Guildford are now closed to the public.

The "sad but necessary" decision has been made by Guildford Borough Council in response to the government's social distancing advice.

But, the council has confirmed that parks and countryside remain open.

Guildford Borough Council posted the following statement on its Twitter page:

Councillor Pauline Searle, lead councillor for countryside, rural life, and the arts, added:

"We are reiterating government guidance and asking residents to please stay home and only leave the house for essential groceries and for important exercise.

"Our parks and countryside currently remain open for people to exercise – not socialise.

"Please follow the guidance and ensure you are social distancing by staying at least two metres away from others who are not from your household.

"Thank you to all of those of you who are following the guidelines and staying safe and staying home, we cannot stop the spread of the virus unless we all play our part."
