Published at 6:41pm 16th March 2020. (Updated at 6:45pm 16th March 2020)

Comedian and actor Rob Brydon has called off his planned performance at G Live in Guildford tonight (16 March).

It comes in the wake of the current coronavirus crisis and after the prime minister announced that the government is urging people to avoid theatres, pubs and restaurants.

On its website Rob Brydon said the performance "should not proceed" as a result of the latest update from the government and that he will be back "at a later date".

He also apologised on twitter, saying "Let's all stay safe".

G Live said ticket holders will be contacted about refunds.

The statement in full:

"Following the latest statement from the Government regarding the Covid-19 outbreak, Rob Brydon has concluded that sadly the performance tonight should not proceed.  Customers should therefore not travel to G Live and await contact from the venue/ticket agent regarding refunds.

"Rob is excited to perform at G Live on a later date and hopes to see you there. Thank you for your understanding and patience".
