Kings College Guildford to open late tomorrow after clean

Published at 12:48pm 15th March 2020. (Updated at 1:34pm 15th March 2020)

Parents of children at Kings College Guildford are being asked not to enter the school building as a precaution.

It comes after a parent who visited reception has tested positive for coronavirus.

As a result, the school will open at 10.30am tomorrow (16 March) to allow the reception area to be cleaned.

Principal Alastair McKenzie said he wanted to "inform parents at the earliest opportunity" so they could make arrangements for the late start.

Mr McKenzie added:

“I have spoken at length to Public Health England who have informed me of the latest advice.

“As a result of this information, and in the interests of students, staff and the wider community, the school has taken the decision to open at 10.30am on Monday 16th March in order that the reception area and all surfaces can be fully disinfected.

“This is in line with the approach that other schools are adopting.

“We are continuing to take advice from Department for Education, Public Health England and the Local Authority and are applying the advice in the context of this school.

“As a further precaution we ask that parents do not enter the school building, but contact us via telephone or email if necessary.

“We have no reports of any students who have become ill at this stage and will continue to operate as a school as normally as is possible.”

Students are being told that the planned PSHE day will be postponed, with tomorrow being a Week 1 Monday for lessons 2 and 3.
