Passengers using South Western Railway this weekend can expect disruption on some lines.

It is for maintenance works tomorrow and ongoing rail improvement works on Sunday.

Saturday (14 March):

The changes include:

  • Lines between Guildford and Haslemere will be closed for maintenance work - replacement buses will be running.
  • Some trains between London Waterloo and Portsmouth via Haslemere diverted between Woking and Portsmouth, calling additionally at Fareham.
  • Some trains only running between London Waterloo and Guildford via Woking.
  • A revised train service between Haslemere and Portsmouth.

Sunday (15 March):

All lines in the Guildford area will be closed.

Network Rail is beginning preparatory works ahead of the biggest improvement work programme in the area for 40 years.

The works will see more than a mile of new track and conductor rail, which provide power to trains, installed.

It is said the works will provide a more reliable railway and better performing services.

The main works will take place over Easter, between Friday (10 April) and Sunday (19 April).

Revisions include:

  • A revised service between London Waterloo and Woking.
  • Buses running between Woking and Haslemere.
  • A revised service between Haslemere and Portsmouth.
  • The normal service between Ascot and Aldershot.
  • Buses running between Aldershot and Guildford.
