Most of Guildford station to close for TEN DAYS over Easter

Passengers who travel through Guildford station are warned that most of it will be closed for ten days over Easter, for track upgrades and other improvements.

Between Friday 10 April and Sunday 19 April lines will be shut for the Network Rail works, affecting South Western Railway (SWR), Great Western Railway (GWR), CrossCountry and Southern services.

The work will impact all rail services that travel through Guildford.

Network Rail says the upgrades "will provide a more reliable railway for trains between London and Guildford, Woking and Portsmouth, Reading and Redhill, and Guildford and Aldershot."

What are the works?

  • Replacing 15 point ends around Guildford station
  • Upgrading 41 track circuits
  • Replacing almost a mile of track
  • Replacing more than a mile of conductor rail.

Which lines are closed?

  • Friday 10 April - Tuesday 14 April: Whole of Guildford station EXCEPT FOR platform one from Tuesday 14 April for a limited number of SWR services to London Waterloo via Cobham & Stoke D’ Abernon.
  • Friday 10 April - Sunday 19 April: The following lines are closed: 
  • Worplesdon to Haslemere
  • Guildford to Ash
  • Guildford to Shalford

How is this affecting travel and what replacement services will be provided? 

  • SWR: Friday 10 April to Sunday 19 April 2020 inclusive: Buses will replace services between Woking/Guildford and Haslemere, and Guildford/Aldershot. 
  • GWR: Services between Reading and Gatwick Airport will terminate at Ash. An hourly service will continue to run between Reading and Ash with a half-hourly service during weekday peak times. Replacement bus services will run between North Camp and Gatwick Airport.
  • Southern: Peak-hour services to/from Guildford will start/terminate at Epsom.
  • CrossCountry: Services between Newcastle and Guildford will terminate at Reading. Services between Reading and Guildford will not run.
    Trains will start/terminate at Reading instead.
South Western Railway
South Western Railway, Great Western Railway CrossCountry and Southern services are affected.

There will be three weekends of preparatory works BEFORE the closure - Guildford station will be open only for a limited number of services from Guildford to London Waterloo via Cobham & Stoke D ’Abernon:

  • Sunday 15 March
  • Sunday 22 March
  • Sunday 29 March

There will also be follow-up works AFTER the closure affecting services in the Guidlford area:

  • Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April
  • Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May
