Surrey cat reunited with owner SIX YEARS after going missing

Published at 3:19pm 30th January 2020.

A Guildford cat has been reunited with her owner six years after going missing.

Hicks disappeared in June 2014, shortly before her owners moved from Shere to Devon.

However, last week (21 January) a woman who had seen her straying in the Surrey village called the RSPCA.

After catching Hicks, who appeared friendly, she took her to the Millbrook Animal Centre in Chobham.

Cat Returned

A scan for a microchip found an email address for an owner - Ysella Sims, who now lives 162 miles away in Exeter.

Having checked her old email address by chance, she saw the message about her missing cat just days later.

Ysella said:

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the email, I was just in shock, it’s not what you expect after six years, but of course we were all delighted.

“We adopted Hicks’ sister Claudie at the same time and sadly she passed away this summer so it is so lovely to have something positive to focus on.

“She has obviously been well looked after as she is in great condition and certainly isn’t underweight, in fact she clearly enjoys her food!”

Cat Returned
Ysella and husband Glen had to make the move without Hicks after several attempts to find her.

She added:

“We also have a labradoodle and they get on great together, particularly enjoying cuddling up on the sofa so she is feeling right at home.

“I am so pleased I had her microchipped and would like to encourage other pet owners to be vigilant about keeping their details up to date."
