The A3 was closed both ways on Thursday evening due to a "concern for safety" of a teenage girl.

Surrey Police were called to the scene just before 4pm (September 26) and shut the road both ways.

The closure was in place between Egerton Road (Cathedral Turn) and A31 Down Lane, with traffic queuing back to the Stoke Crossroads.

Posting on Facebook, a Surrey Police spokesperson said:

"Please be aware that the A3 is currently closed in both directions as we are dealing with a concern for welfare call in Guildford.

"Please consider other routes in the meantime. We’ll update you when we can."

The road later reopened in both directions.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said:

"The situation has now been resolved and we'd like to thank everyone affected for their patience".
