Consultation to take place on "potential closure" of Stoke Park toilets

Published at 10:22am 24th July 2019. (Updated at 10:24am 24th July 2019)

A consultation will take place later this year on whether to close Stoke Park's toilets.

Councillors say they are considering the move due to the high costs of refurbishing the site.

It comes as a review has found that the 17 public toilets in Guildford are "well used and maintained".

Other items discussed were the current free provision of toilets, and a plan to financially support a new accessible 'Changing Places' toilet.

Cllr David Goodwin, Lead Councillor for Licensing, Parking, Refuse, Recycling says:

"It is important to keep toilets in Guildford free of charge and to improve accessibility for all residents, visitors and workers."

Another key priority is to continue to work hard to improve accessibility for the disabled in Guildford by financially supporting a Changing Places toilet with retail partners, which would be the first in the area.

Cllr David Goodwin adds:

"A Changing Places toilet meets the needs of those with complex disabilities and includes more space and additional features such as an adult-sized changing bench with hoisting system, space for up to two carers, a centrally placed toilet and privacy screen."
