Darren Pencille jailed for life for Surrey train murder

A man has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 28 years after being found guilty of murdering a Guildford dad to death on a train in Surrey.

The Old Bailey heard how Lee Pomeroy was stabbed 18 times in 25 seconds by Darren Pencille after an argument about an aisle being blocked.

Mr Pomeroy boarded the Guildford to London service in January, a day before his 52nd birthday.

He was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey this afternoon (July 11).

DCI Sam Blackburn - who led the investigation - says it was a shocking scene for officers to deal with:

"The level of violence that was used. The blood that was in that carriage was horrific.

"This is the most serious investigation I have ever had to lead on and it's a very rare thing to happen on a British train, where a man has unfortunately lost his life due to knife crime."

Pencille's girlfriend, Chelsea Mitchell, was sentenced to 28 months for assisting an offender.
