A man is in a critical condition after his moped crashed with two Land Rover Freelanders in a head-on collision near Guildford.

Five people have been arrested after it happened yesterday evening (June 30) just before 5pm on Westwood Lane in Normandy.

The motorcylist suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital in London.

His family have been told.

One of the Land Rovers fled the scene, returning only after the police arrived. Its occupants were subsequently arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of a collision.

The driver and passenger in the other Land Rover,  were also arrested - on suspicion of dangerous driving offences. They were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police say a number of witnesses have spoken to them, but they want to speak to anyone else who saw the collision, or the moments leading up to it.

In particular they want to hear from anyone who may have seen the manner of the driving of a black Land Rover Freelander and a green Land Rover Freelander in the minutes before the collision.

They are also keen to see any dash-cam or helmet-cam footage from the immediate area covering the 15 minutes before the collision.
