Chelsea fans "punched, bitten and pushed" during fight at Guildford pub

Published at 10:53am 5th June 2019.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fight broke out between rival football fans at a Guildford pub last Wednesday (29 May).

The incident took place at the Guildford Tup pub in Chertsey Street, around 9.20pm during the Europa League final.

Three Chelsea fans were celebrating a goal when they were attacked, with the victims being punched, bitten and pushed by a group of Arsenal supporters.

One victim was able to escape and call police, causing the offenders to run off along Chertsey Street towards North Street.

One of the suspects was described as white, of a large build, wearing an Arsenal shirt and had a tattoo sleeve on his left arm.

Another was described as around 18 years old, of average build and wearing a red jumper.

The third suspect was described as white and wearing a grey Stone Island top.

Investigating officer, PC James Fraser said:

“This was a violent assault from three people who were unable to accept their team was being beaten in good grace, unlike the majority of Arsenal fans.

“If you were at the Guildford Tup last Wednesday to watch the Europa League final, I would urge you to get in touch with us.

“Your information could help us piece together what happened and help us progress our investigation.”

If you have any information about the incident you are asked to call police on 101, quoting PR/45190055740.

You can also give information anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
