Roadworks in Guildford's Slyfield estate finish ahead of schedule

Roadworks which have caused traffic havoc in Slyfield in Guildford are finishing by the end of today, ahead of schedule.

The replacement of traffic lights and the pedestrian crossing on the A320 Woking Road resulted in gridlocked traffic last week.

Some drivers told Eagle said they were stuck for up to two or even three hours on end on the first day of the works last week Monday (May 20), when temporary lights and lane restrictions were in place.

Local businesses also reportedly suffered as a result.

Surrey County Council ended up apologising the following day (May 21) and said they would make changes, such as adjusting the timing of the temporary lights, and manually controlling them during peak times.

The council has now confirmed that the works are being cleared up later today, around four days early, after contractors made good progress over the bank holiday weekend.
