Good deeds and community spirit celebrated in Guildford

Published at 3:31pm 7th May 2019.

Local Guildford residents who make a real difference in their community have been recognised and celebrated at a special ceremony.

The Mayor’s Award for Service to the Community took place at the County Club to celebrate the contribution of local people who were nominated by residents in the borough.

Among the recipients were litter pickers, neighbourhood groups, people helping the homeless and those with dementia and their carers.

A town guide, a neighbourhood group and a scout leader were also recognised, along with volunteering in sport and for residents’ associations.

The Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Mike Parsons, said:

“Everyone receiving an award has been nominated by residents whose lives have been touched by their kindness, generosity of spirit and endless enthusiasm.

"Volunteering – for the people, by the people, has been the theme for my mayoral year and I am delighted to recognise the tremendous contribution that residents and groups have made within their local community by volunteering or fostering good relationships”.

The nominees are from all corners of the borough.

Ash, Bellfields, Burpham, Compton, East Horsley, Merrow, Park Barn, Ripley, Send, and Worplesdon are some of the communities that have benefited from the dedication of the volunteers.

The Mayor presented the awards on Saturday 27 April at the County Club, the sponsors of the award.
