Travellers ignore order to leave Guildford's Merrow Park and Ride

Published at 3:00pm 16th April 2019.

A group of travellers that pitched up at Merrow Park and Ride in Guildford have ignored an order to leave.

Guildford Borough Council said it will now take legal action after serving the group with a notice directing them to leave by midday today.

The unauthorised encampment appeared on Monday (15 April) at the site next to Clandon Golf, with around eight caravans as well as other vehicles on the car park.

The Park and Ride service is currently running as usual.

In a statement Guildford Borough Council said:

"We are aware of the traveller encampment at Merrow Park and Ride, and are in the process of doing all we can, as quickly as possible and working with the police to resolve the issue.

"If they do not leave the site in accordance with the direction to leave, we will take further action through the legal process.

"We are continuing to monitor the situation."

In January the council took legal action against a group of travellers who had pitched up at the site and ignored an order to leave.
