A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a pupil at George Abbot School suffered an injury from being stabbed with a pair of scissors.

The victim has been taken to hospital as a precaution after he suffered a single small puncture wound to his back, but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

Members of staff intervened immediately and remained with the suspect until officers arrived.

Both boys’ parents have been informed and the school has also sent out a message to parents informing them that an incident has taken place.

Guildford Borough Commander Inspector Andy Hill said:

“This was an isolated incident between two pupils at the school. Staff were on the scene immediately, intervened and remained with the boy until we arrived.

“I would like to reassure parents that no other pupils were involved in this incident and that there is no risk to the wider public.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing and officers are still at the school speaking to witnesses and working closely with staff to establish the circumstances of the incident.”

Officers were called to the school in Guildford following reports that a boy had been assaulted by another pupil at around 1.45pm.

The victim is believed to have been assaulted by the suspect with a pair of scissors.

A boy has been arrested in relation to the incident and is currently in custody.

In an email to parents the school said:

"You may be aware of an incident on site involving two students, this afternoon.

"Both sets of parents have been informed.

"Please be aware that emergency services are present and the situation is being managed.

"All other students are continuing onto their period 5 lesson and will be dismissed as usual at the end of the day."

A spokesperson for the academy said:

“Two boys were involved in an altercation this afternoon and one was injured with a pair of scissors.

"The student who was injured was taken to hospital as a precaution. We understand that his injuries are not serious.

“This is now a police matter and we are working with them as part of their investigation.

“We appreciate that this is upsetting news  and we want to reassure parents that we take safeguarding extremely seriously at the academy.

"This was an isolated incident but we are carrying out a thorough review to determine if we need to make any changes to our processes and practices.”
