Guildford Crematorium redevelopment 'progressing well'

Published at 3:19pm 14th February 2019.

Work is progressing on the project to build a new Crematorium in Guildford.

The old buildings have been demolished and work has now begun on the new chapel, offices and other facilities.

The £10 million pound investment in Guildford Crematorium will see the new facilities provide for the future needs of families and the local community.

It is set to open on the existing site in late 2019.

Councillor Matt Furniss, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Cllr for Infrastructure and Governance says:

"I am pleased that the project to redevelop Guildford Crematorium, which will meet the changing needs of our community, is on track.

"Relatives will soon benefit from our new remembrance courtyard, offering a peaceful place to reflect and remember loved ones at what is always a difficult time."

Interim facilities will continue to offer services on site and include carpeted floors, acoustic panelling and flexible seating.

The new remembrance courtyard is due to open this month offering a space for quiet reflection and rooms to place memorial flowers or view the books of remembrance.

It also contains new accessible toilet provision for visitors to the grounds.
