Guildford's HMV survives the axe

Published at 4:12pm 5th February 2019.

Guildford's HMV appears to have survived the axe after plans were announced to close a number of the stores across the country.

The boss of the Canadian firm, Sunrise,  which has bought HMV says he paid a "fair amount" - but won't reveal how much.

The sale to Sunrise means 100 stores and nearly 15-hundred jobs will be saved.

But 27 branches have shut - resulting in 455 redundancies.

The chain's flagship Oxford Street store in London is among those to go.
