Council hopes to repair Stoke Park crocodile after "mindless vandalism"

Published at 1:29pm 28th January 2019.

The "well-loved" Stoke Park playground crocodile has been severely damaged after being targeted by vandals.

It happened overnight on Wednesday (24 January), with many parents having since visited the park and expressed their dismay at the damage to the ornament's 'eyes' and 'snout'.

Guildford Borough Council have now said they are seeing if it will be possible to repair it, as replacing it with a replica is thought to be at least as difficult.

A spokesman for the council said:

"The Council is very disappointed to see this mindless vandalism to a well-loved feature in Stoke Park Garden. We have reported the damage to the police.

"The vandalism occurred on Wednesday night, when the gardens were locked and no witnesses to the event have come forward.

"The crocodile is around 20 years old and made of fibreglass so it will be hard to replace in the same form.  We are, however, looking into any options we can to repair it."

Surrey Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident and anyone with information should contact officers on 101, quoting reference PR/45190008408.

You can also give information, 100 per cent anonymously, to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
