A3 traffic chaos expected to last until the end of the week

Published at 12:47pm 22nd January 2019.

Commuters in Guildford can expect to suffer more misery for the rest of the week as work continues on the southbound exit slip at the Stoke Interchange.

The exit slip is currently reduced to just one lane, with traffic also unable to turn right at the junction with Woking Road.

As a result the morning rush hour has seen huge queues of traffic on the southbound side, with tailbacks stretching as far back as Ripley.

Highways England have said the lane closure and turning restrictions will be in place until the end of the week, having come into affect "from Monday 21 January for seven nights".

In addition the southbound exit slip at the Stoke Interchange will be closed altogether overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Saturday (26 January) and Sunday (27 January).

The work to widen the exit slip is part of £6m of safety improvements along the A3 in Guildford, with narrow lanes expected to be in place at the Stoke Interchange exit until the project is completed in June.

A diversion via the A25 Parkway is currently in place for those wanting to turn right at the junction with Woking Road, while another one will be in place via the University Interchange during the overnight closures this weekend.

Elsewhere overnight closures are already in affect on the A3 northbound carriageway from Compton to the Stoke Interchange, between 9pm and 6am, until Tuesday 5 March (Monday to Friday only).

There is a diversion in place via the B3000, the A31 Hogs Back and Guildford during the overnight closures.
