Elderly woman 'forced to the floor' in aggravated burglary in Shalford

Published at 4:32pm 5th December 2018.

An elderly woman has been forced to the floor in an aggravated burglary in Shalford.

The 81-year-old was confronted by two men in her home after they had entered via an unlocked back door.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened in an area off the A281, Horsham Road on Thursday (29 November) at around 11.45pm.

The victim managed to raise the alarm via an emergency care button before being made to get on the floor.

She suffered bumps and bruises as a result, but the two men left the home without taking anything.

They have been described as white, approximately 5ft 7 inches tall, of Medium build and were wearing dark clothing.

Investigating officer Police Sergeant Stephen Bullard from Guildford Criminal Investigation Department said:

“This was an understandably terrifying ordeal for the victim who came across these two men in her home late at night.

“We believe that this was an opportunistic burglary by two men who may well have attempted to enter other properties in the area that night.

“We have been carrying out house to house checks in the area and would ask that residents look out for their neighbours and make sure that your home is as secure as it can be.

“I would urge anyone living in Shalford to be vigilant and please get in touch if you might have seen these two men before or after this incident."

If you have any information you are asked to call officers on 101 and quote the reference number PR/45180127445.
