Sleep out to support homeless in Guildford

Published at 12:02am 30th November 2018.

Homeless charity Guildford Action is holding a sleep out later to raise funds to help support those in need.

The event is being held in the underground car park of the Guildford Spectrum tonight and will see those taking part experience what life is like for rough sleepers in our area.

Participants will be armed with just a sleeping bag and the clothes on their backs and, although they will have roof over their heads, will be exposed to the elements like those without a home to go to at night.

Jo Tester, Chief Executive of Guildford Action, said:

“We would like to thank local financial advisors, Chapters Financial, who are sponsoring the Sleep Out.

"This means all the funds we raise can go directly to support those in need.

"Homelessness is a growing issue and is particularly difficult at this time of year, as the weather gets colder.

"We hope that the Sleep Out will raise awareness as well as much needed funds.”

Jacqui Blake, President of Guildford Lions Club, who are supporting the sleep out added:

“Being homeless is a serious problem and we will do all we can to support Guildford Action in their efforts to assist the vulnerable and disadvantaged”.

Although the opportunity to take part has passed, you can still play your part in the event by donating to Guildford Action's fundraising page.
