Speed measures to be installed at dangerous Guildford crossing

Published at 6:03am 28th August 2018. (Updated at 6:43am 28th August 2018)

Following the death of two pedestrians on Bridge Street, work to make the crossing safer along the A322 in Guildford is finally due to begin.

A number of incidents at the junction between Bridge Street and Onslow Street resulted in 12,000 people signing a petition that urged the council to make the area safer.

In response to this, Surrey County Council will be installing raised tables at the crossing points in Guildford's busy town centre.

They believe that it will reduce the risk of collision and the severity of accidents.

The work is due to begin on Monday 1st October, lasting three weeks.

It will be carried out in sections - some of the work will include road closures, there will be diversions and temporary traffic lights in place.
