The Surrey & Hampshire Homebase stores that could shut

Published at 2:17pm 8th August 2018.

Homebase is going to outline plans next week to close between 50 and 80 stores - putting around 1-thousand jobs at risk.

The DIY retailer has 249 shops and 11-thousand staff across the UK, including a number across Surrey and Hampshire.

Stores in our area include:

  • Guildford
  • Farnham
  • Woking
  • Godalming
  • Reigate
  • Staines

It hasn't been confirmed if they will make the cut yet, but the closure plan will come amid further evidence of the deteriorating outlook for British high streets.

Homebase Guildford
The Guildford store, along Europa Park Road, is one of a number of Homebase stores across Surrey and Hampshire.

House of Fraser has been desperately battling to secure new funding to avert a collapse that would threaten 17,500 jobs.

The number of stores to be axed was still being finalised on Wednesday, with a range of 50 to 80 shops thought to include 18 which have already been closed in recent months.

If it is at the top end of that range, the closure programme will represent almost one third of Homebase's estate.

The precise number of jobs that will be lost was also unclear, with analysts speculating that it was likely to be between 1,000 and 1,500, roughly 10% of Homebase's 11,000-strong workforce.

The eventual figure could be higher, according to one insider.

Around a quarter of Homebase stores will close across the UK.
