Another unauthorised traveller encampment appears in Guildford

A third unauthorised encampment of travellers has appeared in Guildford within the space of a week.

The group pitched up last night (18 June) at Bellfields Green, it's after encampments at Bannisters Field and Stoke Park.

It is not clear if the travellers who were on Bannisters Field have moved to the new sites in the borough. Guildford Borough Council believe that some of the travellers may be from the same group.

They said: "We are aware of the new traveller encampment at Bellfields Green in Guildford, and are in the process of doing all we can, as quickly as possible.

"We are working with the police who are also aware of the current situation. If the caravans and accompanying vehicles have not left site in accordance with the direction to leave, we will take further action through the legal process."

They are also aware of a traveller encampment on Parish land at Spiceall in Compton.

In addition to encampments in Guildford, groups were also moved on from Farnham and Woking last week.

The council added: "We are monitoring the situation and have provided the occupants with bin bags, and made arrangements to remove any rubbish.

"If you have any questions about encampments on Council land, or to report rubbish, please contact Customer Services on 01483 505050 or email customerservices@guildford.gov.uk

"If you are reporting anti-social behaviour or criminal activity, please contact Surrey Police on their non-emergency number 101 or 999 in an emergency only."
