New Pond Road to close as Compton bridge replacement begins

Published at 6:00am 22nd April 2018. (Updated at 11:34am 23rd April 2018)

From today (April 23), New Pond Road in Compton is due to shut for 12 weeks as work begins on replacing a bridge.

The B3000 will be closed until 13 July as the Victorian road bridge is replaced - having reached the end of its design life.

Network Rail are investing £2 million to replace the bridge to ensure the road and the railway, which runs beneath it, can continue to operate safely.

A 10 mile diversion will be in place for the duration - you can see a map of it here.

Rail replacement buses will be in place over the Spring bank holiday weekend (May 26-29) between Guildford and Haslemere to enable Network Rail to complete the work.

Joanne Parkes from Network Rail, said: “This is a really important piece of work, taking place as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan, which will allow us to continue running a reliable service across this stretch of the network.
