Tunsgate Quarter won't open until Spring

The opening date for Tunsgate Quarter in Guildford has suffered yet another set back.

The 80,000 sq ft shopping, restaurant and residential site will now open in the Spring.

Developers haven't confirmed a set date but the site was originally due to open in October 2017.

In August, it was announced it wouldn't open until February but that decision has now been further pushed back.

Once complete, it will provide a sophisticated and stylish hub in the heart of the Town Centre.

Developers originally said the opening date had been delayed so that it can be finished to the "highest specification".

Construction work requires both new build and reconfiguration of the space and has included the demolition and rebuilding of large sections of the building such as the installation of a new eye-catching steel and glazed roof.

The scheme includes spectacular views across Guildford Castle and gardens, and a striking new atrium in the middle.

An art deco design by architects Lyons + Sleeman + Hoare will add significant appeal for Guildford, both internally and when viewed externally from the surrounding streets.

The additional construction period will allow additional aesthetic embellishments to be included.

Stuart Harris, Commercial Director and Co-Founder of the developer, Queensberry, said: "Tunsgate Quarter is on track to open in spring 2018, bringing together a curated mix of high-quality brands, including The Ivy Collection, OKA, The White Company, Bobbi Brown, Loaf, Cath Kidston and lululemon many of whom have already commenced their fit outs."We have agreed terms on over 70% of the space and hope to announce more names in the next few weeks.”
