Mystery man discovered in Merrow ditch identified

A mystery man discovered in a ditch in Merrow has now been identified.

Surrey Police launched an urgent appeal on Christmas Eve, after he was found by a dog walker off Park Lane.

The man, in his 20s, is in a serious condition but officers can now confirm a relative has come forward.

Officers were called to the grassland area on Sunday (December 24) by the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The appeal, which pictured his clothing, resulted in a relative making contact and police have been able to verify the man’s identity.

He remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Detective Inspector Jak Bowers said: “We have had a brilliant reaction from the public in such a short amount of time since issuing the appeal for which we are hugely grateful.

"We will now be supporting this man’s family and trying to establish exactly what happened to him.

“At this stage we have no reason to believe there are any suspicious circumstances involved in how the man came to be in the ditch.”
