'Major milestone' reached in Guildford's Local Plan

Guildford Borough Council says a major milestone has been reached in the town's Local Plan.

They have now handed in the proposals to the government for independent inspection.

It means new homes, jobs and transport improvements could be a step closer.

Cllr Paul Spooner, Leader of the Council, says: "Local people need a range of homes, especially affordable, a successful economy with great work prospects, good education choices and protected heritage and countryside. Alongside better transport and travel options to support them.

"Our new Local Plan is the best way to provide these and will enable the Council to tackle local issues and balance community needs across the whole borough.

"The next stage of reviewing the plan is now in the hands of the planning inspectorate. After the government appoints them, an independent Planning Inspector will control and manage the examination, including a set of public hearings."

Back in November the council agreed to submit the plan, supporting evidence and consultation comments to the Secretary of State.

These have all now been delivered to the planning inspectorate and are available to view on the Guildford Borough Council website.

Councillors are hoping the final stage of the plan will be achieved by the end of 2018.
