Card payments for taxis could be introduced in Guildford

Published at 6:00am 24th October 2017.

Isn't it annoying when you're booking a taxi but realise you don't have any cash on you?

Well all those mid-trip stop-offs at cash machines could soon be a thing of the past.

Guildford Borough Council is asking people for their thoughts on the introduction of a requirement for all taxis to accept payments by debit or credit card.

It is hoped this 'will make travelling by taxis easier for customers and improve safety for drivers'.

A public consultation has been launched, with the borough council wanting to get the views of members of the public, local businesses, taxi drivers and taxi companies.

This survey, which will close at 4:30pm on Friday 1 December, can be found on the Guildford Borough Council website.

Separately Guildford locals are also being asked for their view on refusing taxi drivers a licence if a separate Surrey authority has already done so.

Guildford Borough Council says it wants to make sure all Surrey authorities have the same standards.

Along with this the authority wants to get people's views on the introduction of mandatory safeguarding training for all drivers to raise awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation.

This second survey, which can also be found on Guildford Borough Council's website, shuts on 4 December.
