Guildford man forced police car off road during chase

A Guildford man is behind bars after forcing a police car off the road while being pursued.

It followed a burglary at a house in West Sussex back in March, whilst the owners were asleep inside.

31-year-old Kieron Everitt, of Ferry Lane, drove the escape car - twice trying to reverse into police.

At one point, he forced a police car off the road - thankfully nobody was injured.

There was a high-speed chase, which saw the vehicle driving at speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone.

The car was later abandoned and the three men were found hiding in a garden shed.

Items stolen during the burglary were strewn across the garden floor and inside the shed.

Three men have been jailed

Everitt was given a total of five-and-a-half years - 54 months for burglary and theft, 12 months for dangerous driving, plus 12 months for aggravated vehicle taking, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance, to run concurrently.

He was also sentenced to 48 months for burglary and theft and 12 months for aggravated vehicle taking, both to run concurrently with his five-and-a-half years, having admitted another burglary in Elm Grove, Horsham.

Two other men have also been jailed.

Detective Constable Emma Dumbrell of the West Sussex Priority Crime Team said: "This was a determined attempt to escape arrest after a night-time burglary.

"Fortunately nobody was hurt but the actions of the defendants, Everitt in particular, were also irresponsible and dangerous, and that is reflected in the sentences they have now been given."
