Guildford home burgled in broad daylight

Published at 6:33am 27th June 2017.

A home in Guildford has been burgled in broad daylight - after an intruder smashed through a door.

It happened last week Thursday in Merrow, at around 1:15pm.

Police say the suspect broke a back patio door to get in to the property on Merrow Lane.

After a search of the house, cash and jewellery were taken.

A man was then disturbed in the garden - and was seen to run towards the business park towards the Surrey County Council Depot.

He was spotted getting into a Black Vauxhall Antara, before driving off onto Merrow Lane towards Park Lane.

The man is described as a white, aged 17 to 18 years old, and of a slim build. He was wearing a grey zip up hooded top, dark trousers and a dark coloured baseball cap.

Detective Constable, Richard Pegden, investigating officer, said: “I am appealing to the public to help me find the man responsible for this crime. I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this man acting suspiciously around or near the entrance to the business park between 1pm and 1.15 pm on Thursday, June 22.

“The area would have been busy with staff from the business park on their lunch breaks. In particular, there may have been witnesses to the vehicle driving at speed in the Park Lane or A25 area, at that time.”

DC Pegden added “Any information you have could help us establish the events that afternoon. I must commend the quick actions of the occupant of the house, in reporting this matter to the police so quickly.”

Anybody with information is urged to call 101 quoting crime reference number 45170066457.

Or you can use the online reporting system and enter the reference number in the ‘Additional information' section.
