LISTEN: Eyewitness accounts of major Guildford bus crash

Published at 4:00pm 17th June 2017.

More photos have emerged showing the moment a bus mounted a pavement in Guildford.

The driver ploughed into parked cars and narrowly missed a block of flats on Woodbridge Road on Wednesday (June 14) night.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash - one car ended up on its roof.

One person suffered minor injuries.

Photographs from the scene show extensive damage to the front of the bus and a car on its roof.

Kathryn Parker lives in the flat the bus stopped just yards short of. She described to us the carnage as it happened: "My partner heard a bang, and then we just saw people running outside and dialling 999.

"So we ran outside and it was just chaos.

"There was a car on its roof, a car going down. I expected there to be loads of people but luckily there was no one in there."

"I've always, always, always had a horrible feeling, because the way people drive down here is absolutely crazy.

"All you hear all night is speeding cars and I've always had a horrible image of someone crashing through - because it's so easily done if they're driving the way they are.

A resident in one of the flats, Laura Watkins, told Eagle what she saw: "Our bedroom backs on to the road , we were just laying down half asleep and I heard this horn.

"I got this feeling this isn't going to end well, so I sat bolt upright, and all I see is this bus coming off the road, smashing into cars, before I ran out the room to grab my phone to ring the police."

Another woman who lives there is Laura Herman. She told us: "At first, I thought it was just traffic and obviously a lorry going past, and then - it was quite loud - one car went flying in to the bush and then when he hit the other cars all I heard was a massive crash."

One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
