Published at 4:33pm 4th May 2017.

It has been confirmed a smashed up car, found at Newlands Corner, is not connected with the death of a man nearby.

On Wednesday, Surrey Police found the body of a man in his 30s at the Guildford beauty spot.

Around 30 officers descended to search the area.

Also close to the scene was a car which had its windows smashed.

Police tape was wrapped around the vehicle and notices had been posted on it by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.

Surrey Police has since confirmed it is not connected to the investigation into the discovery of the man's body.

In a statement, the Surrey Wildlife Trust said: "We can confirm that we were aware of the vehicle when it was abandoned and the police asked us not to touch any part of the car or glass on the floor because it is part of their investigation.

"The car will be removed by the police as soon as they are able to do so."

A Surrey Police spokesperson told Eagle: "I can confirm this vehicle definitely does not connect to the body found in Newlands corner."
