Liverpool football legend to visit Guildford's Merrist Wood College

Published at 4:24pm 25th April 2017.

Liverpool football legend Sammy Lee is coming to Guildford to help coach a one day training session.

It will be at Merrist Wood College on Monday May 1, for youngsters aged between 9 and 14.

The Crystal Palace assistant manager will be joined by coaches from the Fulham Academy and Woking FC.

Money raised will go towards Mane Chance Sanctuary, which is based in Compton.

It was set up by actor Jenny Seagrove to rescue and rehabilitate abused, abandoned and old horses, integrating them with the local community.

She tells Eagle: "It's a really brilliant day and the kids have so much fun and they learn a lot.

"Who knows there might be somebody out there who has got real talent who gets picked up, you never know.

"How often do children get to work with Premier League professionals? People who have been legends in their own careers.

"It also raises us money, which goes to keeping the horses and helping the people that the horses help."

The session times are:

  • 9-10 years – 9.30-11.30am
  • 11-12 years – 12-2pm
  • 13-14 years – 2.30-4.30pm (this may be at the earlier time depending on numbers)

The cut off date for entry is Thursday April 25, visit the Mane Chance Sanctuary website to get involved.

In 2015, England manager at the time Roy Hodgson led a session at Merrist Wood.
