Flames win in overtime in Glasgow

Clan v Flames 27012019AGP 10

Published at 10:55pm 27th January 2019.

Ian Watters scored a little over 3 minutes into overtime, and the Flames recovered from a 2 goal deficit to take a pair of points on the strength of a 3-2 win at Glasgow Clan.

Clan had the only goal of the 1st period when they broke the ice with a Guillaume Doucet strike that sent them to break with the single goal advantage.

Less than 2 minutes into the middle frame, Clan went up a pair through Brendan Connolly but Flames clawed one back at 25:27 thanks to Ben Davies.  Exactly 60 seconds from period time, the visitors pulled fully even thanks to a Jez Lundin strike.

In the final stanza both Travis Fullerton at the Flames end and Joel Rumpel at the other held firm to help their sides take a point each and force extra time where Watters grabbed the clincher.

“We couldn’t be happier with getting 4 points across the weekend, which has not happened for a while,” said Paul Dixon.

“It was a good game between a couple of good teams, and it was a good character win in a lot of ways to get down by a couple and then work our way back for points.”

“Travis made some key saves tonight, including some late ones to preserve at least a point and then a couple in OT to keep us afloat until we could steal the win.”

“It is a long journey home, but one made a whole lot easier thanks to a win and a full point haul weekend.”
