Flames edged out by Panthers

Published at 10:50pm 30th September 2018.

A goal in each period by the Nottingham Panthers was just enough offence for them to edge out a road win with a 3-2 defeat of the Flames on Spectrum ice.

Panthers got the scoring started with a Jacob Doty one timer nearly 7 minutes in.  Inside the back half of the frame, while killing the early part of a double minor penalty, Spectrum’s men refused to give up possession in the offensive zone. They worked the puck around until Jez Lundin tossed it on net for a Kruise Reddick re-direct that pulled the score level.

The home team had the majority of the 2nd period pressure but it was the Panthers who took the lead back when Luke Pither found himself alone in front with a perfectly set errant puck that he hammered high, giving his team a 2-1 lead less than 5 minutes from period close.

The Panthers extended the difference in the 52nd minute through Robert Farmer, and a Corbin Baldwin marker inside the final 5 minutes set up the nail biter finish, but with their own net empty in favour of all hands on deck up front for the final bit of time, pressure to tie it was to no avail and the result didn’t change ahead of clock expiry.

“I thought we deserved something from this game for sure,” said Paul Dixon.

“Where last night we had to accept that another team was able to really stifle us in so many different areas, I thought we had a lot of the game’s pressure from about half way through the opening period onwards.”

“When it was still 2-1 we had some really outstanding chances to even it up, and we just didn’t get any luck with that and then not long after that we were 2 behind which makes the job a lot more difficult.”

“It’s back to work this week, and we know that if we keep working at it, things are going to change.  We will be ready to get started next Saturday when Dundee are here at Spectrum.”
