Flames bid farewell to Ben Campbell

Published at 3:57pm 27th July 2018.

The Guildford Flames ice hockey club will bid farewell to 31 year old forward Ben Campbell who has spent the past 8 seasons under Spectrum lights since his arrival in 2010-2011 after 56 games the year prior with Elite League outfit Newcastle Vipers.  During the Flames opening top flight term, the 5’10”, 170lb skater had 8 goals and 17 points in 58 starts.  When combined with 7 Premier League seasons in Flames gear, the Durham born forward’s Surrey stint closes on 148 goals, 199 assists for 347 points in 459 appearances.

Campbell has been a part of 7 trophies during his Guildford stay including the 2015-2016 Cup-Playoff “Double”; back to back League and Cup titles across 2011-2012 and 2012-2013; and a playoff championship during his first campaign with the club in 2010-2011.  He sits 14th on the club’s all-time points list and is one of just 13 skaters to ice in at least 400 games for the club.

“Sports generally don’t have many, but every once in a while you get a guy who has an exceptionally long stay with a club,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon “and Ben is one of those rare examples.”

“Ben was a big part of the success we had in the EPL during the back half of our membership in that league.  He didn’t get the same kind of ice time when we stepped up to the Elite League last year, but he finished up having made a good contribution to what we felt turned out to be a successful opening season.”

“Decisions with players who have been here so long; players that have had such an impact, are exceptionally difficult and not at all enjoyable.  Ben has put himself in pretty rare company in terms of a Flames career. We congratulate him on a very successful run and thank him for his role in our team success through those years.  Everyone in the organisation truly wishes Ben well as he take the next steps in his career.”
