Flames sign American defenceman Mike Kreig

The Guildford Flames ice hockey club have signed 28 year old American Defenceman Mike Krieg.

The 5’10”, 185lb skater spent this season with East Coast League’s South Carolina Stingrays and Reading Royals where he made 13 starts.

He split the season prior at Norfolk Admirals and Wheeling Nailers, recording 16 points in 58 games.

Kreig said:

“I am pretty excited for this opportunity and I can’t wait to get on the ice with my new team this week.”

The native of Seattle, Washington’s first foray into the pro game was 2015-2016 in the Southern Professional League with Pensacola Ice Flyers where 56 games yielded 3 goals and 23 assists with the eventual league champions.

Krieg was selected to the league’s All Rookie team for his efforts.

In the 4 preceding seasons, he skated and studied at NCAA DIII University of St. Thomas where he made 90 appearances while scoring 12 goals and 39 points.

His collegiate run included selection to the NCAA III West All American Second All Star Team.

Paul Dixon told Eagle Radio;

“In our digging around about Mike we learned that he can really skate and handle the puck which we think will fit into our style of play.

"He will not be new to the entire dressing room either so knowing at least a face or two should help with a quick settling in period.

"In our dealings with Mike he has shown nothing but total enthusiasm for joining us and we are excited to see him in a Flames shirt.

"Most of the paperwork is settled, and he is now free to cross into the UK so we are hoping to have him at practice a couple of times and be with us on Saturday’s journey North.”
