Flames net 11 goals in mixed weekend

Published at 12:55pm 2nd October 2017.

Guildford Flames scored 11 goals during a weekend of mixed results in both the league and cup.

On Saturday the Flames narrowly missed out on getting a result at Milton Keynes.

Paul Dixon's side lost 3-2 in the cup match.

Afterwards he said: " The result is a little frustrating for a couple reasons, there is no reason why we couldn’t have won the game.

"We outplayed them and we outshot them. We had enough opportunities to win it and played well enough to do so. Going home empty handed after that is unfortunate.”

The Flames came back strongly on Sunday though, scoring eight in a 13 goal thriller over Braehead at the Spectrum.

The floodgates opened after Mikael Lidhammar scored the first goal for Flames 11 minutes in.

Ben Davies also got in the score sheet as Guildford stormed to an 8-5 victory.

Assistant Coach Milos Melicherik said: "I thought we were on them from the opening faceoff.

"They are on a long trip, the 2nd night of the weekend, and we just had a bit more jump, and we played well.

"At some points in the season we will face the same disadvantage they did in that regard, and we are glad we made sure to make the most of the opportunity in getting our first league table win.

"Like we have been doing all season, we just kept plugging and finally in the last period we got a bit of breathing room by making good on some of our chances."

This coming weekend Guildford take on Coventry at home in the cup and Fife away in the league.
