Swedish forward Lidhammar signs for Flames

Published at 4:52pm 1st August 2017.

29 year-old Swedish forward Mikael Lidhammar has signed for Guildford Flames.

The 6'0" skater has more than 150 games under his belt at the top tier of Swedish pro hockey.

He spent the last pair of Elite League seasons at Dundee Stars where he iced 119 times while scoring 30 goals and adding 51 assists.

Lidhammar has also previously played for Luleå HF, Allsvenskan outfit Bofors IK and IK Oskarshamn.

After completing his move to Guildford he said: "I'm looking forward to the new job at the Flames.

"I hope I can repay the trust placed in me with a good performance.  The team and I will give everything to present the fans in Guildford with a good first season in the EIHL."

Head Coach Paul Dixon added: "We have tried to get players with speed at every position, and Mikael is no exception.

"He also brings a bit of a physical element in delivering a hard working, intense effort each and every night.

"Mikael brings a depth of experience from playing at a world class level in Sweden’s top flight, while also being very knowledgeable about the UK game thanks to a couple of seasons at Dundee Stars.

"He should play a key role in helping us settle into our new league."
