Guildford Flames legend passes away

Published at 4:25pm 25th July 2017.

A former Guildford Flames ice hockey star has passed away after a lengthy illness.

Darrin Zinger spent five seasons at the Spectrum and helped the Flames to their historic first treble in 1998.

The Canadian defenceman plied his trade in Britain for more than a decade, having started his British adventure at Streatham Redskins.

That was back in 1985 and during his career, Zinger played almost 500 games in British Division 1, 2, English Premier League and the British National League; finishing in 1998-1999 with BNL Basingstoke Bison.

Zinger passed away at the age of 53.

The Guildford Flames have offered their condolences to his family and paid tribute to a 'one-of-a-kind character (who) will be missed by all who knew and loved him'.
