The son of British rock superstar Rod Stewart has signed for Guildford Flames.

Liam Stewart joins the club ahead of the Elite League move next season.

Last year the 22 year-old played for Coventry Blaze, scoring 11 goals in 57 starts.

Ahead of the 2017/18 campaign Laim said: “I'm really excited to be a part of a new club coming up to the Elite League, and to be able to join a couple of players I played with last year.

“That will make it an easier transition! I've heard nothing but great things about the city.  I can't wait to meet the fans and get the season started!”

Stewart developed his career in the United States, skating four seasons of Major Junior hockey at Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League.

He recently spent a season at Alaska Aces where he scored one goal and gained three assists in 13 appearances.

The international forward played for his country at senior level for the first time in early Spring.

Scoring a couple of goals and three points he helped the team in promotion to the next level of World Championship play.

Head Coach Paul Dixon said: “I watched Liam play for GB in Belfast not long ago, and what stood out most was his work ethic.

Liam is a tough competitor and brings energy to every shift.

“He has good speed, he gets in on the forecheck, and can get to the net. He is a great addition for us, and we are looking forward to his part in getting the new season underway.”
