Guildford Flames sign former Slovakian international ahead of Elite League season

Published at 3:42pm 16th May 2017.

Guildford Flames have signed former Slovakian under-20 international Tomas Nechala as preparations get underway for their first season in the Elite League.

Nechala joins the Flames from Amiens in France where he scored twice, got 6 assists and 55 penalty minutes in just 35 starts.

The 24 year-old says:  "I am very happy to be a part of the Guildford Flames organisation.

''I have heard only positive things about the club.

“It will be an exciting new challenge for the team moving up to the top league, and also a great challenge for me personally.

''I hope and wish that we have a successful season.”

Born in Ilava, Slovakia, he started his senior career in 2014-15 with Skalica where he played 50 games scoring twice.

In the next season he moved onto Dukla Trencin making 44 apperances.

From Trencin's development programme, Nechala represented his country 6 times at under-18 World Junior championships in 2011 and added an extra 10 games in 2013.

Flames Head Coach Paul Dixon said: “Tomas is a good skater who can move the puck, but plays a strong defensive game.

“He is still a relatively young player, but with a good number of games in a world class league in Slovakia plus experience in France we have no doubt he can be an impact player for us, and we are looking forward to getting him in the line-up when the season starts.”

The signing of Nechala comes a week after the Flames snapped up former Great Britain Jr. and Sr. skater Ben Davies.
