Financial help for Local Council Tax Support recipients in Guildford

Published at 2:04pm 30th March 2020. (Updated at 12:23pm 2nd April 2020)

Guildford Council has announced that people receiving Local Council Tax Support in the borough will be getting a further discount of £150 on their council tax bill for this year.

It will issue new revised bills to all recipients of working age, as a result of the economic challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

The council is also offering the same group help in the form of short-term discretionary payments if they are struggling financially.

Lead Councillor for Finance and Assets, Customer Services, Cllr Joss Bigmore says it is hoped the measures will "help to allay the fears of the most disadvantaged residents in the borough:"

"We need to pull together as a community, now more than ever and will do all we can to support you through these tough times.

"In addition, we have help and support in place for council housing tenants and can also advise on support for those in private rented accommodation.

"We also continue to work closely with partners to support people who are homeless or rough sleeping in our borough."

Local Council Tax Support is available to people who have lost their job or been placed on reduced hours during the coronavirus outbreak.

Applications can be made through the Guildford Borough Council website at https://www.guildford.gov.uk/localcounciltaxsupport.

Any resident having difficulties making their council tax payments are advised to call 0330 123 0081 or email ctax@guildford.gov.uk (putting DIFFICULTIES in the subject line and quoting their Council Tax reference number).
