Guildford House Gallery celebrates 60th anniversary

Published at 1:48pm 8th August 2019. (Updated at 6:37pm 8th August 2019)

The Guildford House Gallery is celebrating a big birthday as it marks 60 years since opening its doors.

As part of the occasion the gallery is currently hosting the "People and Places Exhibition", showcasing art work and objects in Guildford Borough Council's museum and gallery collections.

In the exhibition a series of individual mini displays take a portrait, landscape or townscape as the starting point for stories, and connections between the objects in the collections.

The exhibition has free admission and is open Monday - Saturday 10am-4:45pm and Sunday 11am-4pm.

Lynn Szygenda, Exhibitions and Audience Development Manager of Heritage Services at the council, explains more about the exhibition, the gallery's collection of work by esteemed local artist John Russel, as well as her own memories of working there:

Below see what the gallery looked like when it opened in 1959 and what it looks like now.
