£300,000 boost for Guildford community and voluntary organisations

Published at 3:03pm 22nd February 2019.

Voluntary and community organisations in Guildford are set to benefit from grant funding totalling almost £300,000.

CHIPS playscheme, Oakleaf Enterprise and Guildford Action are among those who will receive the funds from Guildford Borough Council.

The funding was provisionally agreed at a meeting of the executive on Tuesday (19 February), subject to the approval of the council's 2019-20 budget at the full Council meeting on 26 February.

Cllr Geoff Davis, Special Advisor to the Leader and Lead Councillor for Social Enterprise and the Voluntary Sector said:

"Voluntary and community organisations deliver a wide range of services across our borough, including supporting some of our most vulnerable residents.

This grant funding will help support the elderly, vulnerable and less advantaged in our community, which is a key priority for the Council.

"It will also help improve sports provision and support community projects across our area. I am delighted that we are once again able to support these organisations which play such a vital part in our community."

Funds were awarded to nine local groups as part of the Community Grants scheme worth a total of £62,396.

These include a £15,000 grant to the 4th Farnham (Tongham) Scout Group for a new Scout HQ and community hub, £15,000 to the CHIPs playscheme for their summer 2019 scheme 'Go Wild' and £3,529 to Synergy Dance to deliver dance, yoga and wellbeing classes for people with special educational needs and visually impaired children.

The second scheme for grants was to voluntary organisations, which were given to 16 voluntary groups worth a total of £236,220.
